Overview

Product information
The root bark of this tree, also known as Mimosa tenuiflora and jurema, has an interesting role in the history and present of psychedelic shamanism. It is the only known plant that can be used for an orally ingested brew that, without the help of other plants, produces visionary experiences similar to ayahuasca. In Brazil it has been used in the past in the Vinho da Jurema, a ceremonial preparation and intake of this plant. Rumor has it that this tradition has become extinct and has recently been picked up again.
Jurema is also a well-known source for Westerners who make anahuasca, which is any brew with a psychopharmalogy similar to that of ayahuasca (one MAO-inhibiting plant and one DMT-containing plant).

EFFECTS
Today, M. hostilis is mainly used in combination with Peganum harmala to make anahuasca, a psychedelic tea that is very similar to ayahuasca. The effects can best be described as a physical and mental purification, with at the same time a 4-hour connection with the imperceptible. The purification is usually not as strong as with ayahuasca.

The intensity of this trip depends on many factors; most users must first gain some experience and that is why the effects are not that strong at the beginning. Most will have an experience comparable to a low dose of psilocybin mushrooms or LSD. Stomach cramps can also occur during the first two hours.

When the effects are strong, most people will notice a drastic change in their interpretation of reality. There is also often transport of the senses to another dimension. Anahuasca is known for strong visions from both the sunny side and the shadow side. The visions tell stories about the user and everything else in the universe. However, many people do not get visions; they experience anahuasca through other senses. Many also suffer from diarrhea and have to vomit.

If only jurema is taken, the effects are the same, but then they last shorter (up to 3 hours) and there is generally less nausea, abdominal pain and related discomfort.

Using an extract of the bark as incense results in a psychedelic experience of about fifteen minutes that contains elements of an anahuasca experience. Mainly present are the drastic change in interpretation of reality and transport of all senses to another dimension.

USE
In most anahuasca recipes, 5 grams is a low dose, 10 a normal dose, and 15 a high dose. Do not underestimate how overwhelming the experience can be and always start with a low dose if you are not yet familiar with anahuasca. If you have never made the brew yourself before, then know that it is not a success with almost anyone the first time. For most, making a good anahuasca is the result of many attempts and years of experience. The best thing to do in books and on the internet (see left below) is to see how you can make anahuasca, and choose a recipe.

For anahuasca, jurema is usually powdered and boiled in water. Depending on the method of the brewer, cooking takes between an hour and a day. Some people make two or more infusions from the same plant material and combine them. Sometimes acidity regulators such as vinegar or lemon juice are added to speed up extraction. Typical cooking times are between 1.5 and 4 hours in total. The resulting liquid is reduced to a small drinkable amount that is taken 15 to 60 minutes after ingestion of 3 to 4 g. P. harmala or 50 to 150 gr Banisteriopsis caapi.

You can also make a psychoactive fluid from jurema only. Put 25 to 35 grams (beginners 10 to 20 grams) of the powdered root bark in 125 to 175 ml of cold water for one hour and squeeze and stir the powder several times. Drain and store the liquid, after which you treat the powder in the same way for a second time. The two liquids are combined and taken on an empty stomach.

Due to the very high potency and low price, jurema is a popular source for botanical extracts. These extracts are mainly used as incense.

INGREDIENTS
We sell the root bark from M. hostilis. The primary active ingredient in this part of the plant is N, N-DMT and there is also a small amount of β-carbolines (Raetsch 2005). Some sources mention the presence of 5-MeO-DMT.

WARNING
When making anahuasca, be aware of the fact that you use jurema in combination with an MAO inhibitor, such as P. harmala or B. caapi. MAO inhibitors can be very dangerous if you combine them with certain foods or other psychoactive substances or medicines that are not harmful in themselves.

Do not use jurema when you are alone. Be aware that in the past it was used safely in ritual conditions under the guidance of trained shamans.
